Women NGO Advocates Free, Credible Elections In Plateau State
A coalition of civil society organizations and a non governmental organization, the women situation room Nigeria, plateau state chapter has advocated for a free, fair, credible and peaceful elections in the state .
The state coordinator, Women situation room Mrs Nanpan John who led the group stated this at the Nigerian Union of journalists state secretariat jos.
The group of women took a rally match to the NUJ press Centre carrying placards with different inscriptions on them saying they stand for peace and a peaceful electioneering process.
The state coordinator for the women situation room Nigerian said the group came together to add their voices to other organizations to say “yes” to no violent free elections.
She expressed deep concerns over how politicians are using the youth as political thugs during elections. She however called on the citizens of the state not to sell their PVCs and say no to vote buying.
she added that women are always at the receiving end whenever there’s an outburst of crisis during elections.
Receiving the group,the chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists plateau state chapter Mr Paul Jatau and the chairperson National Association of women journalists, Mrs Jennifer Yarima who spoke at different times said the visit was apt considering that the general elections is around the corner.
Paul Jatau assured the group of their support for anything that would encourage peace during and after the elections in the state.
Jennifer Yarima who commended the woman for their courage, added that as women they are saddled with the responsibility of ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
The NAWOJ chairperson further encouraged the women to come out enmass to vote because they have numerical strength to vote for any leader of their choice.
