Weekend Gossip: Playing With Fire
2 October 2020 Blog
I do hope it will still be in order to wish you a happy Independence, 60 is no joke and of course a happy new month as well, It has been a rather difficult year world wide and so one truly must be grateful for the gift of life even amidst the storms
So I was talking with Sesugh Unde , And please o there is a difference between talking and gossip before you will say I should mind my business ,I am a Nigerian ,He is a Nigerian so Nigeria is our business, Ah truth be told it is your business too so let us all mind it .
I want to share with you the things he said because honestly he got me thinking .Please read and perhaps it will help your thinking and you may share your thoughts as well. You know we Nigerians like to speak pidgin and slangs as you will always find in this gossip post however the message is clear ,Hear him….
I got a revelation today about Nigeria. A revelation sponsored by the reality show that ended recently
Today, I discovered that all those people that ‘know book’, Nobel laureates and what-have-you that have been claiming they know ‘our’ problems may not even know everything.
For far too long, they have dropped our problems at the feet of corruption. ‘We are the most corrupt country in the world’….blah blah blah
See Eh! Corruption isn’t our problem. misplaced priorities are in my opinion. Or, the lack of them. The things that matter to us are a reflection of our station in the comity of Nations. It is like playing with fire and expecting you will not get burnt
Consider the just concluded show….. 71 days is 1,704 hours. If I gave 10 hours (average) each day, I gave 710 hours cumulatively to the program and I personally know people who gave more but , let’s just stick with 10 hours on average. That would be about a month of my life!
You see, when something matters to us, we can do anything. Loved ones who’ve not sent me a text this year were sending VOTE to 34052 (random code) with reckless abandon for a fee meanwhile, my own would have been #4 naira.
If I put in 10 hours each day at doing something that adds value, I would surely break grounds of achievement even if” village people” come after me, it is just a life principle.
Imagine that as a student preparing for an exam , I am reading 10 hours daily for 71 days , if I fail my papers that semester, the department should be burnt…..or, at least, my brain. Or do you not agree?
I am well aware too that there is the God factor in anything, So in addition if I pray to God for 10 hours daily for 71 days and he doesn’t answer, (note God always answers maybe not the answer we expect but he always answers) I will wonder why even the prince of Persia held Daniel’s answer for only 21 days and my own don enter 71 days biko
What is it they say about us as a people and our so called disregard for promptness…..lies from the pit of hell! We are gathered round the TV before 7pm on eviction days. We know how to be on time. It’s just about priorities. When we appear late for church , work and other commitments and blame it on traffic, sometimes it is genuine, other times it’s really about priority.
We know how to value what matters! This show was important and it was clear for all to see. U didn’t need a sorcerer to tell you. Nigerians have the will to see a matter to it’s end. We stayed awake till lights-out. we did not want to miss out on any juicy details
They say we are not united? Hehe! You’re joking. Did you visit voting center’s? Nobody should “come and be going and telling me” we are not united, please I do not want to get angry because today is my angry day!
We know how to love our own. It’s just about priorities.
The next time you see a leader getting away with poor governance in this address, don’t think the Nigerian youth is bereft of ideas. We just don’t care that we are led that way. The day we prioritize proper leadership, the day we love our country like we love reality shows ,no leader will lead poorly again because like us, they know what is right. The only problem is, the right thing has not become a priority.
May we all get our priorities right. Happy Weekend
