Voter Apathy Mars Assembly Elections In FCT
A cross section of FCT Residents have decried low voters turn out in today’s Area council Election.
Some voters who spoke with Kapital FM correspondent Peter Ireh in Abuja Municipal Area Council attributed the voters Apathy partly to loss of confidence in the process.
The Emir of jiwa, Alhaji musa idris who expressed concerned over the low turn out of voters,commended the peaceful conduct of electorates.
Kapital FM, correspondent,James Itodo reports from Kuje Area council that voting did not start at some voting centres on time as result of low turn out of voters.
At the Kuje central distribution centre, at the special science primary school, the turn out was not impressive when compared with the turn out during the presidential and national Assembly elections.
At chibiri, Kiyi , chikuku, the turn out was not also impressive. at kayarda, mass literacy, Government Junior secondary school, pasali , in Kuje turn out was poor.
Voting has been peaceful except for the non impressive turn out. The security agents were been civil with the people and there has not been any case of harassment of any individual at the time of this report.
One of the voters Zaka Sunday told Kapital FM that the INEC should evolve more strategies for Nigerian’s vote to count after voting for candidate of their choice.
He called on Nigerians to shun violence during and after the elections.
The former chairman, Kuje area council, Danladi Zhin, while addressing newsmen described the impressive turn out during the presidential and national Assembly elections as show of Love for President Muhammadu Buhari by Nigerians.
Alhaji idris also underscore the needs for a violence free election.
Elections in Kwali Area Concil started 8am in the morning especially in Kwali metropolis.
Voting commenced with average turn out of voters especially in the morning however there was large turn out in the afternoon.
The smart card readers functioned in Kwali central ward while in kilankwa ward at Sheda NERDC primary school the card reader malfunctioned.
Also, at wakko ward in Bukpe primary school polling unit the card readers delayed the commencement of voting process till 10:45.
While in Alheri leprosy village koroko-yangoji, voting was peaceful as at the time of filing this report the special people were through with vote casting .while the INEC staff assigned to the polling unit were seen waiting patiently for the time to commence the collation in the unit.
The leader of the leprosy colony who said the voting process was smooth without hitches, appealed to the Federal government to provide them with social amenities.
