Many people use the day to exchange gifts such as; cards, candies, flowers and other items with their loved ones as part of activities to mark Day.
Although it is not a public holiday in any country, Valentine’s Day is now recognised as a significant cultural, religious and commercial celebration of love in many regions around the world.
While there are many stories associated with the various Valentine, the one honoured on 14th February is the Saint Valentine, a priest of Rome who was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians who were prosecuted under the Rome Empire.
According to history during his imprisonment, Saint Valentine fell in love with his jailers daughter and before his execution of 14th February, he wrote her a love letter “signed from your Valentine”.
It’s against this back drop that a lot of people across the globe see the day as lovers day.
To this end as Nigeria today joins the rest of the world to celebrate Valentines day youths in Nasarawa state have been urged not to engage in immorality.
