Troops of the Armed Forces at various theatres of Operations have arrested over one hundred bandits and terrorists and eliminated over forty criminals in the last two weeks.
The Acting Director Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko who stated this during a media briefing in Abuja, said over sixty kidnapped victims were rescued during the operations.
General Onyeuko who noted that the briefing covered the 16th to 29th of July, 2021, explained that troops responded to several distress calls through extensive air, land and maritime Operations.
He pointed out that troops of Operations Hadarin Daji, Hadin Kai, Safe Haven,Whirl Stroke, Whirl Punch and Thunder Strike in the North East, North West and North Central eliminated over forty bandits and Boko Haram and Islamic States of West Africa Province ISWAP terrorists, arrested over one hundred criminals and rescued over sixty kidnapped victims.
General Onyeuko also stated that several arms and ammunition were recovered during the operations.
The Acting Director said in a bid to address economic theft, troops of Operations Delta Safe and Awatse in the South South and South West conducted anti-illegal oil bunkering, anti-illegal oil refining and anti-smuggling, discovered and deactivated some oil refining sites and recovered thousands of litres of petroleum products.
General Onyeuko added that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor continued consultations with retired senior military officers in various geo-political zones on ways of tackling the security challenges in the country.
The Acting Director also maintained that in a renewed effort to end the manace of indigenous people of Biafra/ Eastern Security Network, troops raided their hideouts, neutralized some of the members and recovered arms and ammunition.
