STATE GOVERNMENTS URGED TO ADOPT DIGITAL BROADCASTING

State governments have been urged to create an enabling environment especially in the rural areas to enhance a smooth switch over from analogue to digital broadcasting in the country.

The Minister of Information Senator Patricia Akwashki made the call In Abuja at the first international summit on digital broadcasting in Nigeria and the 63rd General Assembly of the Broadcasting organisations of Nigeria.

Senator Akwashki who explained the vital role of the broadcast industry in educating the public said it was essential for the industry to fully adopt the new trends of digitisation.

The information minister further said that the federal government was making efforts to address the challenges of funding as regards the on going process of digital switchover.

According to her the city of Jos in plateau state will be the first to fully switchover from analogue to digital television broadcasting in Nigeria.
