SMEDAN Presents Licences To Over 150 Business Development Service Providers

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN, has presented practicing licenses to the first batch of over 150 qualified Business Development Service Providers, BDSPs, under the National Business Development Service Providers, BDSPs.

On the occasion in Abuja, the Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, Ambassador Mariam Yalwaji Katagum said the present administration would continue to give priority to programmes that would enhance the growth of MSME’s in the country.

Ambassador Katagum who was represented by the Director, Industrial Development Department in the Ministry, Mr Adewale Bakare advised the business development service providers to contribute their quota to national economic development through effective capacity training for millions of MSME’s across the country.

She identified lack of access to quality business training and development as major challenge facing the MSMEs sector.

The Minister of State added that the certified BDSPs would henceforth execute major projects under SMEDAN to ensure professional delivery of its activities as it relates to MSMEs development

Earlier, the Director General of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN, Doctor Dikko Radda said the licences were issued after qualitative try and certification of the BDSPs.

Doctor Radda stated that the National BDSPs programme was designed to standardize the delivery of Business Development Service to MSMEs in Nigeria.

He explained that the programme sets, structures and systemizes standardized curriculum for the development of relevant BDSPs for all functional areas of any small business.

According to him, the move is part of SMEDAN’s strategies of strengthening MSMEs activities in the country towards achieving economic development in line with the agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration

While receiving their licences, some of the BDSPs promised to provide the needed capacity training needed to add value to MSMEs in the country.

They commended SMEDAN for the training, certification and presentation of the licences which they noted would go a long way to fast track national economic development
