Sexting Is Porn In Uganda And Will Attract Punishment – Anti-Pornography Committee

The Uganda Anti-Pornography Committee has said it considers ‘Text messages construed to be leading to sex’ as porn.

Simon Lokodo, Minister for Ethics and Integrity Uganda, commissioned an anti-pornography committee in his fight against porn and all related acts.

In a tweet by a Ugandan investigative journalist, Mujuni Raymond‏, we have learned that the committee leader made the pronouncement;

“text messages construed to be leading to sex [sexting] will be defined as porn and attract punishment says porn committee leader”

The Minister, Lokodo, said the committee wasn’t just set up now but only began operations due to a lack of funds to kick off since.

Dr Annette Kezaabu Kasimbazi, a journalism and communications lecturer at the Makerere University, is the chair of the committee. Their job is to ‘identify, seize and destroy any pornographic material‘.

They are also expected to apprehend and prosecute perpetrators as well as promote the rehabilitation of individuals affected by pornography.
