The Senate has pledged adequate budgetary appropriation to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, for effective delivery of its mandate.
The president of the Senate Ahmed Lawan stated this in Abuja when he received delegates from the European Union.
He emphasized the need for the electoral umpire to be adequately empowered to enable it conduct elections inline with international best practices.
Senator Lawan gave the assurance that the red Chamber would consider legislative intervention to further strength the nation’s electoral institutions.
Earlier, commissioner of the European Union in Nigeria, Hannah Roberts advised the Senate on legal reforms for more credible elections in the country.
She said the European Union would collaborate with Nigeria for development, peace and unity of the country.
