Secession: Gowon Advises Agitators To Demand For Infrastructural Development

Former head of state, Retired General Yakubu Gowon has advised those agitating for the secession to quit the move and rather Focus on demanding for infrastructural development for the region.
General Gowon stated this while speaking at the annual distinguish lecture of the national institute for policy and strategic studies, kuru Jos.
Gowon who spoke on ‘unity and diversity: responding to the current challenges of nation building ‘ said the numerous challenges of insecurity among others must be surmounted.
The former head of state explained that the concept of nation building must not be seen as a burden but an asset.
Also speaking, chairman of the occasion and governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, attributed the many travails of Nigeria to the lack of vision and called for patriotism beyond ethnic and religious alignments.
Okorocha said the mind set of Nigerians must be redirected towards patriotism.
Earlier in a remark, acting Director General of the institution, Dr. Jonathan Juma said the choice of the guest speaker was apt given the subject matter and the state of the nation.
