President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the United States of America to consider re-locating the AFRICOM Headquarter from Germany to Africa.
The President in a virtual meeting with the US Secretary of State, Mr. Anthony Blinken on Tuesday said relocating the HQ to somewhere near the Theatre of Operation, against the backdrop of growing security challenges in West & Central Africa, Gulf of Guinea, Lake Chad region and the Sahel would help in finding solution to insecurity.
He reiterated that Nigeria and her security forces remain resolutely committed to containing security challenges in the nation and region.
Addressing the root causes, the President noted that the support of important and strategic partners like the United States cannot be overstated.
Buhari added that Nigeria would continue to enhance collaboration in all forms with friends and strategic partners. “All of us working together for greater security for all concerned.”
He also expressed appreciation to President Biden for his welcome decision to repeal the restrictions on travel and visas for citizens predominantly from Muslim nations and African countries, including Nigeria; as well as re-joining the WHO and Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
President Buhari emphasied that Nigeria remains resolute in her commitment to supporting global efforts as enshrined in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
