Plateau State To Domesticate Community Policing
Plateau state government is set to domesticate community policing in the state.
The plateau sate governor, Simon Bako Lalong and the chairman Northern governor’s forum stated this at a stakeholders meeting at the new government house Ray Field jos.
The stakeholders meeting with the theme:Domestication of community policing in plateau state; exploring the indigenous options.had in attendance the state executive council, members of the plateau state House of assembly, traditional, religious ,community and political leaders.
The dialogue seeks to explore ways towards undertaking a holistic overview of the prevailing security challenges in the State, with specific reference to a community policing model that could better respond to public safety and security.
Governor Lalong pointed out that the unfortunate events of last month in Kulben,Kombun District in Mangu LGA as well as that of Katad I Bokko LGAs was as a result of the gap in the peace being enjoyed in the state, which claimed the lives of innocent citizens with many properties destroyed.
Speaking earlier, in an address,the Secretary to the plateau state government, Prof.Danladi Atu, said the meeting would avail the stakeholders the opportunity to strategize, and come up with fruitful ideas as well as bring both practical and theoretical framework to understand the concept of community policing.
During a panel discussion to further brainstorm on the issue,prof. Clement Dakas gave advise on some modalities that could help in setting up effective community policing.
He further called for adequate funding,mechanism of recruitment, operational framework, legal regulations amongst others.
Other stakeholders also spoke on the need to support the idea called on citizens to support the state government efforts in bringing solution to lasting peace in the state.
