A Second Year Bachelor of Education student at St. Augustine University of Tanzania, Mbeya campus committed suicide after English football club, Liverpool, lost to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final held in Kiev, Ukraine last Saturday.
According to Tanzania’s Global Publishers, the deceased 24-year-old Moses Mashaka had placed a bet on Liverpool’s win. The Merseyside club, however, lost 3 goals to 1 against the Spanish club.
When the match ended, Mashaka tied a rope to the eaves of his room and killed himself.
Mbeya police commander Mussa Taib, who confirmed the incident, urged students to refrain from addictive gambling, urging them to appropriately use money sent to them by their parents.
