Osun Decides: INEC Declares Election Inconclusive, Announces New Date For Rerun
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared inconclusive the September 22 gubernatorial election in Osun State,in which PDP scored 254, 698 while APC scored 254,345.
The margin is 353 and the votes cancelled is 3,498. According to electoral act since the canceled votes exceeded the margin between PDP and APC, the election has to be declared inconclusive.
INEC Returning Officer,Prof. Joseph Adeola, while announcing the results said there are 767,955 total votes while 47,843 votes was rejected.
” The margin between the PDP and APC is 353, and the total cancelled ballots totaling 3348 will not make any party a winner of the contest, in line with electoral act.”he said.
According to the commission, the rerun will hold on Thursday 27 at seven polling centers across four local governments . Ife north, Ife south , orolu and Osogbo some of the units in which votes were cancelled for alleged irregularities.
KFM Correspondent,Kayode Oyedare who is monitoring the election from Osun state said both PDP and APC supporters are currently demonstrating against the development.
