The federal High court sitting in maitama has awarded the sum of 200,000 Naira against the Attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami for the delay of prosecution in the trial of convener of RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore and his co-defendant Olawale Bakare.
Mr Sowore and his co-defendant are standing trial on a 7 count charge of treasonable felony, fraud, cyber stalking and insulting president Muhammadu Buhari.
At the resumption of proceeding slated for commencement of trial, prosecution counsel Aliyu Halilu informed the court that charges against the defendants have been amended but they were yet to serve them.
He therefore sought for an adjournment. Defense counsel Olumide Fusika opposed the application for adjournment and asked the court to strike out the matter for lack of diligent prosecution.
In a ruling, justice ijeoma ojukwu held that five adjournments had been granted in the instance of the prosecution even before the commencement of trial.
She therefore awarded the cost of 200,000 Naira in favour of the defendants and adjourned trial till tomorrow.
