4 December 2018 News

Byazhin, is a community in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council. It is characterized with bad roads, lack of social amenities, exasperated by the heavy down pour during the rain season, which makes it challenging for residents to access healthcare and psychosocial services. During the dry season, it becomes unbearably dusty.

Heading to the suffering of the residents, Ohaha Family Foundation came to the rescue by providing residents in this community with quality maternal, nutritional education and psychosocial services to pregnant women and commercial sex workers (CSWs), experiencing hardship to access healthcare services.

The leader of the group, John Ede who led the visit to Byazhin said ‘we heard and witnessed the sufferings of residents in this community to access healthcare services especially pregnant women and the lack of psychosocial support and we mobilized by bringing quality healthcare, nutritional, and psychosocial services to the people in this area.’

Some 200 people benefited through distribution of birthing (delivery) kits to pregnant women, nutritional workshop, free blood sugar screening, free distribution of male and female condoms, sex education and free consultation to CSWs supported by Steps to Life.

Happy beneficiaries expressed their appreciation that our coming to their aid is ‘relief to the high cost of maternity bag.’ Others expressed their joy with the nutrition education, especially about food items around good for the health of mother and baby, promote healthy baby growth and development.

The CSWs could not hide their joy that our coming helps them know what to eat to control their blood sugar and live healthy.
