Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Nasarawa State Command has arrested five managers of filling stations within Lafia, the Nasarawa State Capital for selling fuel above the approved pump price and hoarding
State Commandant of the corps, Muhammad Mahmoud Fari gave order for the arrest at the commencement of inspection on the sale of petroleum products in the state.
Mr Fari stated that the command would go tough on any petroleum marketer who take advantage of the yuletide period to inflict unnecessary pains on the people by illegal increase of fuel price, hoarding and other sharp practices.
The State Commandant who maintained that the inspection would be a continuous exercise said the arrested persons would be charged to court immediately.
One of the apprehended managers of filling stations, Mr Alkakali Sarki Musa who was found selling fuel at one hundred and fifty naira per litre said procurement of petroleum products at the refinery has become difficult in recent past as price of the commodity had been increased.
During the monitoring exercise by the NSCDC team, it was observed that some of the filling stations that were not selling hurriedly commenced dispensing fuel to motorists.
Chris Nyamtu reports that the NSCDC team also intercepted a truck loaded with over one hundred Jerrycans of different sizes filled with fuel at one of the filling stations on the outskirts of lafia metropolis.
