NPFL: Enyimba To Fine Dauda For Red Card Incident
Despite apologising, NPFL side Enyimba will fine goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda for his role in his sending off in Sunday’s goalless draw against Akwa United, the club chairman Anyansi Agwu has stated.
Dauda got his marching orders for an off-the-ball incident in the 41st minute of the encounter.
“We are going to make a statement to serve as a deterrent, because Dauda acted alone. Such anger is not part of football. I condemn it totally,” Agwu told the People’s Elephant’s official website.
“You have sent an apology. I feel you, you recognize it was a very terrible mistake. Nobody in football is perfect, so don’t feel like you put the rest of the team in trouble. Maybe we would have won, maybe. But that’s football: you either win, lose or draw.
“However, we will have to fine you, so that you too can feel it. Because we want you to always act professionally.” “It’s very unfortunate that happened,” Dauda said after admitting his dismissal was the turning point in the game.
“Who knows, we should have won the game if we had been 11 players on the field. The only thing I can do now is to ask the forgiveness of the fans, and of the whole team. This will not happen again.”
