NJC Reacts As Buhari Accepts Onnoghen’s Voluntary Retirement

The National Judicial Council during an emergency Meeting today accepted the voluntary retirement of Justice W. S. N. Onnoghen, as Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
In a statement signed by NJC Director Information Soji Oye,that the President’s acceptance of the retirement is in line with Council’s recommendation to the President on 3rd April, 2019.READ ALSO: supreme-court-throws-out-onnoghens-application-challenging-suspension
“Council at the end of its deliberations, thanked the President for the acceptance which was in the best interest of Nigeria.”
President Muhammadu Buhari late Sunday acknowledged the voluntary retirement of Walter Onnoghen, the former chief justice of Nigeria who was accused of breach of asset-declaration rules.
According to Buhari, Onnoghen’s resignation was effective from May 28, four months after he was suspended by the president on January 25.
