The Nigerian Railway Corporation NRC, has commenced demolition of structures allegedly built on railway lines in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The demolition which commenced around the Challenge Area, Opposite the Ilorin Office of the Railway Corporation was carried out at about one o’clock in the afternoon.
Some of the items moved out from the shops were seen scattered all around as affected shop owners in the demolished complex complained that they were informed of the demolition in less that twenty four hours before the exercise.
Speaking with newsmen, an affected shop owner in the complex Mr Mathew Adebayo who said each tenant paid #43,500:00 rent for two years, revealed that the demolition directive was from the Minister of Transport, but wondered why only the structure was singled out for demolition out of more than 10 of such structures on the row.
Mr Olayinka Isiaka, another affected shop owner lamented that the action was unfair because they were not properly informed before the sudden appearance of bulldozer to pull down the building.
He appealed to concerned authorities to urgently look into the matter and come to their aid.
As at the time of filling this report, efforts to reach management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Ilorin and owner of the building proved abortive.
