Nigeria Loses Brigadier General In Auto Crash
A former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Brigadier General John Shagaya Rtd has died in a lone car crash that occurred at about 1445 hours along Langtang – Pankshin road on his way to Jos today , Sunday 11th February , 2018.
John Nanzip Shagaya born ,2 September 1942 was a Nigerian senator and former senior military officer who was elected in April 2007 to represent the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State as member of the Nigerian Senate for Plateau South.
He ran for reelection in April 2011 on the Labour Party (LP) platform, but was defeated by Victor Lar of the PDP.
As a non commissioned officer (NCO) with the 2nd Reconnaissance Squadron in Abeokuta, he participated in the Nigerian Counter-Coup of 1966.
This was made known by FRSC team from Langtang Unit Command who were at the scene of the crash almost immediately after the crash.
He was reportedly travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep with his driver and an orderly from Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Preliminary report indicates that the driver lost control and hit a tree making the General to sustain an head injury that eventually led to his death.
The two injured aides of the Major General are currently in Pankshin General Hospital while the corpse of General Shagaya has been deposited at the Air Force Hospital Mortuary in Jos.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi has expressed his condolences to the family while appealing to other motorists to always avoid whatever could cause mishap on the highways.
