Niger State: INEC, NHRC Take Steps To Sensitize Residents On Electoral Laws, Citizens Rights
The Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC in Niger state and the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC are to strengthen collaborations in a bid to sensitize residents on electoral laws as well as citizens rights.
The decision was reached when the state coordinator National Human Rights Commission, Mallam Nuhu Mohammed visited the Inec Resident Electoral Commissioner in Minna.
The state resident electoral commissioner, Professor Sam Egwu said election was a human rights issue and gave an assurance that INEC would continue to partner well meaning organizations to ensure that citizens’ right are not trampled on.

He cautioned political parties against violating the electoral act especially the section that states no campaign should start earlier than ninety days before the election.
Professor Egwu said measures have been put in place to ensure that people with disabilities are carried along in the whole entire process.
Earlier, the state coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, Mallam Nuhu Mohammed expressed the readiness of the body to educate the people on the right to vote and be voted for.
He advised those who are yet to register for their voters card to do so before the deadline set for it.
