Niger Assembly Passes 2019 Appropriation Bill of Over N1.6bn
The Niger state house of assembly has passed appropriation bill for 2019 Fiscal year of over N166,000,000,000 (one hundred and sixty-six billion naira).
The budget was hiked up from one hundred and sixty four billion, four hundred and fifty million naira.
This followed a report from the chairman house committee on appropriation Alhaji Mohammed bashir Lokongoma.
Presiding over the plenary, the speaker of the state assembly, Alhaji Ahmed Marafa- Guni restated the commitment of the lawmakers to uplift the living standards of residents.
Alhaji Mafara-Guni said the appropriation bill is to take effect from the first of January 2019.
The chairman house committee on appropriation Alhaji Mohammed Bashir Lokongoma who explained that the rise followed recommendations by various standing committees to adjust both recurrent and capital expenditure in view of present realities.
Alhaji Lokongoma said the committee observed that late and inadequate release of state counterpart funding contribute to the slow pace of development thereby discouraging partners from executing the project.
This is the first time in recent past an appropriation bill is passed before the previous budget elapses.
