The National Institute for Cultural Orientation, NICO, wants Nigerian children to imbibe the culture of social integration, unity, peace and national cohesion.
The Executive Secretary of NICO, Mr Ado Yahuza made the call during the Institute’s Annual Childrens’ Cultural Fiesta in Abuja.
Mr Yahuza said the call became necessary to enhance national development through early orientation and sensitization of Nigerian children on issues of peaceful coexistence.
He stated that the cultural fiesta is an offshoot of NICO’s culture club programme in secondary schools designed to inculcate Nigerian cherished cultural value of honesty, hard work, tolerance, patriotism, respect for elders and constituted authority as well as respect for the sanctity of human life.
The Executive Secretary of NICO explained that through the platform of culture clubs in secondary schools, the Institute has been able to expose the youths to appreciate the value of cultural diversity
