The Director-General of the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency, NGSA, Dr. Abdulrazaq Garba says the Agency has over the years doing quite a lot in providing geoscience information to support the Nigerian mining sector.
Dr. Garba who made this known in an interactive session with Mines and Steel Correspondents in Abuja said the Agency also provides the Geological mapping of the country, Exploration reports among others.
He noted that mining cannot take place without adequate analytical infrastructures to support it, adding that the National geoscience Research Laboratory in Kaduna state has done a lot in terms of many of the analyses.
Dr. Garba said the Federal Government has over time invested significant amounts of money in procuring needed equipment and most importantly ensure that the laboratory is accredited according to international standards in order to attract investors.
He further stressed that in the absence of non- accreditation, such analysis will not be accepted worldwide.
Dr. Garba however maintained that the current administration has been trying on funding and support of the Mining sector but more is needed to be done in order to take the sector to the next level.
The NGSA Director-General explained that the Agency is working the best out of what is available and making sure all aspects of geoscience data generation provide the necessary information needed.
According to Dr. Garba, the response so far from those who need the data is commendable compare to the previous administration.
