NEPZA To Establish Special Economic Medical Zones In Six Geopolitical Zones

The Nigeria Export Special Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA, is to establish Special Economic Medical Zones in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEPZA, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba made this known when the Country Manager of Africa Department, International Finance Corporation, IFC, Eme Essien Lore visited him in his office in Abuja.

Prof. Adesugba said Lagos, Kwara, Katsina, Kano and some other States had already indicated interest for the project.

He stated that the move became necessary to reduce medical tourism and strengthen the nation’s health sector in view of the current COVID 19 pandemic ravaging the global community.

According to him, NEPZA is committed to realizing the economic and health agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration through a result oriented Free and Special Economic Zones projects.

The Managing Director of NEPZA who described the private sector as key to realizing the objectives of the Agency stressed the need for them to invest in Special Economic Zones to boost the nation’s economy.

Earlier, the Country Manager of Africa Department, International Finance Corporation, IFC, Eme Essien-Lore said she was in NEPZA to seek areas of collaboration and support for the economic growth of Nigeria.

She commended policy direction of the MD/CEO of NEPZA, in repositioning the nation’s Free and Special Economic Zones across the country.
