NEMA Takes Step To Mitigate Effect Of Flood In Niger State
The National Emergency Management Agency,NEMA Minna operation office, has organized a one day stakeholders meeting to come up with short, medium and long term plans for disaster management in the state.
The aim is to mitigate the effect of flood in the state.
The zonal coordinator of NEMA in charge of Niger and Kwara states, Alhaji Aliyu Shehu said the meeting became necessary due to incessant lost of lives and property in flood disasters across the state.
He said a working document would be gotten at the end of the forum that would assist in disaster management.
The Permanent Secretary Niger State ministry of Environment and Forestry, Hajiya Ramatu Usman stressed the need for those leaving in flood plains to relocate to safer grounds.
The Director General Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Nga and the Assistant Secretary, Kwara State Emergency Management Agency, Fatima Mohammad pointed out that flood has caused a lot of damage in their states.
Correspondent Rita Durumi reports that critical stakeholders agreed that disaster management is everybody’s business.
