The Nigeria Entrepreneurs Forum, NEF, has signed a Memoradum of Understanding, MoU with the Organization of Women in International Trade, OWIT Nigeria
On the occasion in Abuja, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb. Mariam Yalwaji Katagum said the move would enhance Small and Medium Scale businesses among Nigerian women.
Amb. Mariam Katagum who was represented by a Deputy Director in the Industrial Development Department in the Ministry, Mr Opaluwa John the signing of the MoU was coming at a time when Nigeria needed to take full economic advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area which commenced in January this year.
The Minister of State therefore reiterated the commitment of her Ministry towards effective collaboration with the private sector towards boosting the nation’s trade and investment.
In a remark, the President of Nigeria Entrepreneurs Forum, NEF, Doctor Sidney Inegbedion said the MoU would enhance joint implementation of women related projects and champion the leadership role in the African Continental Free Trade Area among others.
Doctor Sidney Inegbedion therefore advised Nigerian business women to play significant role in the export of made in Nigeria fashion and garments as well as in the provision of related services that would reposition the country economy for greatness.
On her part, the President, Organization of Women in International Trade, OWIT, Nigeria, Blessing Irabor advised the Federal Government to strongly employ provisions in trade liberalization to advance its commitment on gender equality to further encourage the growth of small scale businesses among women
According to her, OWIT Nigeria partnership with NEF and other relevant stakeholders will seek to provide gender focused interventions that would adequately support women entrepreneurs in Nigeria
