The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has decried abuse of phone-In programmes by radio and television stations in the country.
Director General of the NBC, Malam Is’haq Modibbo-Kawu stated this at a workshop on content development and financing, holding in Ilorin.
Malam Modibbo-Kawu who pointed out that opening phone lines during live programs has been abused by broadcast content producers described it as act of laziness.
The NBC Boss also expressed concern that most live phone in programmes encourage flaunting of the NBC codes because the delay mechanism required are not put in place unlike in advanced countries.
On funding and logistics for content producers, Malam Modibbo- Kawu announced that the Federal Government has put in place machinery to address the challenge.
In his presentation titled ” Understanding the NBC codes towards successful content development ” the NBC Director of broadcast monitoring, Dr Armstrong Idachaba, emphasised that broadcasting is expected to play pivotal roles in the social, cultural, technology and economic lives of Nigerians hence the need for content producers to always consider their immediate environment.
Another resource person, Mrs Junipa Musa represented by Mr Greg Odutayo in his paper titled “Developing content as Nigeria Goes Digital ” explained that it is only creative and hardworking producers that would not be threatened by digitisation.
The Chairman of the DigiTeam, Edward Amana in a presentation entitled “Content Production: Equipment and Personnel” observed that the use of obsolete equipment for content production including use of mantic device had seriously affected their revenue generation.
The workshop had in attendance content producers from radio and television stations across the country.
