National Cereals Research Institute Empowers Women,Youths In Rice, Soybean And Beniseed Production In Niger State
Worried by the poor commercialization of Beniseed, Soybean and rice, the National Cereals Research Institute Badeggi is currently training Youths and women from three local government areas of Niger state.
The training is in the area of empowering participants in Rice, Soybean and Beniseed production.
The benefiting local government areas are Bida, Gbako and Katcha
and is for the implementation of the 2018 Zonal intervention project of the House of Representatives.
The Executive Director of the Institute, Dr. Aliyu Umar expressed worry that the processing of these crops was dominated by small scale processors who cannot compete favorably with imported grains.
Dr. Umar pointed out that the programme would empower the trainees on good agricultural practices thereby reducing problems such as food security, youth restiveness among others
The member representing Bida Gbako katcha in the House of Representatives, Malam Bala Farouk explained that inadequate training and monitoring were major factors facing small scale farmers in the constituency.
Represented by Jibrin Mohammed, the lawmaker enjoined the beneficiaries to pay keen attention to the sessions.
Some of the participants, Aisha Usman and Ismaila Ndagi noted that the exercise would better their knowledge of the crops.
The training which is to last for three days, is being attended by one hundred and fifty five beneficiaries.
