NASS Urged To Unbundle FG Constitutional Functions

The 9th National Assembly has been urged to ensure that the current exclusive list which stipulates the functions of the Federal Government in the Constitution is unbundled.
A former Senator of the 4th Republic Senator Jonathan Zwingina made the call in Abuja, at a public lecture on the 20years of the National Assembly in the 4th republic organised by the National Assembly Legislative Digest.
According to the former Chairman Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, the Land Use Act, Security, Taxation, Power, Mines and Minerals should be reviewed and placed on the Concurrent list to be legislated upon by the Federal and State Governments
Senator Zwingina also called on the 9th National Assembly to ensure that the concept of inconclusive elections do not repeat itself in the country.
Earlier the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary on Special Duties, Festus Daudu, called on the legislature to collaborate with the executive to change the negative narrative about Nigeria.
On his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, represented by the chairman House committee on Media, Benjamin Kalu, said the 9th House of Representatives will prioritize Good Governance, Insecurity, fight against corruption in its legislative agenda .
The theme for the event is “20 years of the National Assembly in the 4th Republic: The tasks ahead of the 9th National Assembly.
