Nasarawa State Polytechnic Staff Widows Seek Urgent Governments’s Assistance
Wives of deceased staff of Nasarawa state Polytechnic Lafia have appealed to the state government to engage them through offer of employment to alleviate their conditions of living.
They made the appeal during the distribution of food items donated by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics of the state institution in Lafia.
Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics Nasarawa state Polytechnic Lafia, Comrade Paul Usaini said the donation of the food items was to cushion the hardships the wives of their late colleagues have been passing through since the demise of their spouses.
“Since their husbands died, the families were facing a lot of difficulties due to lack of payment of gratuity.”
He called on the state government to expedite action in releasing the deceased staff entitlements to the widows as most of their children have dropped out of schools due to lack of funds.
According to Comrade Paul Usaini the union was making contribution of N1 million each month to alleviate the suffering of its retirees and families of its deceased colleagues.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Cecilia John described the gesture as a relief to them.
She appealed to the state government to come to their aid by giving them employment at the Polytechnic to enable them to have sense of belonging.
