American Country singer and legend, Donald Ray Williams passes away after a brief illness.
Don Williams passed away on the 8th of September 2017 as a result of emphysema. This is a disease that affects the lungs and causes shortness of breath. This was announced in a statement by his publicist, Telegraph UK reports.
The 78-year-old crooner was one of the most influential country musicians with a professional career spanning 52 years.
He was an influence to many artistes from various genre’s.
With songs like, ‘Amanda’, ‘Time’, ‘Love Me Tonight’ etc, Don Williams carved a niche in the country genre with his low, unique and deliberate sound.
The Texas singer was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010 which is considered the highest honour in his category. Due to his smooth bass-baritone voice and imposing build, he was nicknamed the “Gentle Giant” of country music.
Don Williams will be missed for his life, his art and the calm his music brought.
