Labour Slavery: Group Seeks Justice For Nigerian Workers In Lebanese Company, 2 Others
A civil rights group, Save Lagos Group (SLG) has petitioned the
Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the anti-graft body and other related agencies including National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) on the plights of Nigerians working in Lebanese Company ,Cartertainment.
In a signed Petition Letter by the Convener of the group, Comrade
Adeniyi,Alimi Sulaiman, dated Thursday 1st of August, 2019 titled “Petition seeks urgent intervention of the security agents in getting
justice for the affected Nigerians
The company according to the group is located at No.1303 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos,
Other two companies were; BEAMCO Nigeria Limited, Kofo Abayomi Avenue, Apapa, Lagos and ECLAT Properties Limited at No.44b,Ijaiye road,
Caterpillar Bus stop ,Ogba, Lagos State .
The group alleged that the three (3) companies had engaged in barbaric way of dealing with the Nigeria citizens working with the companies before and currently, describing the companies as notorious, wicked,satanic evil and fraudulent in Nature, adding that all their actions were against the labour law and rule of engagement in the country.
“It raised the allegations of fraudulent practices, slave trade, women
trafficking and indecent assault against the management of the
Companies, alleging that the companies were also threatening the
lives of innocent citizens who had entitlement to be collected from
” And this made the group to develop interest in the matter and as
well write the security authorities in the land for necessary action
in order to prevent any breaking down of law and order in Lagos State.”
The Complainants against CATERTAINMENT Company were; Sister Mary Idiata ,Nwaedozi Deborah, Ugbala Ogechi, Emmanuel Akpan, Ramoni Abidoye and many others and Mr. Abass Adeoti and Mr. Oladipupo Sholeye Ajani complaint against BEAMCO Nigeria Limited.
” While Mr.Taoheed Adekunle Oladapo lodged complaint against ECLAT Properties Limited.”
It further stressed that the peaceful complaint by the group to the
security agents were necessary for amicable resolution of the matter,
before mass action if the authorities of the security operatives fail
to prevail in the matter.
According to the Letter, “In view of the indubitable fact that the jungle rule of delusive demagogues and desperadoes are being satanically entrenched in the aforementioned three Companies.
“The Companies intentionally served as bait to trap the unsuspecting Nigeria like their aforementioned Nigerian victims. They have subjected Nigerian workers in these Companies into labour slavery, degradation and maltreatment of highest order.”
“Consequently, before the suspects would send the complainants to
early grave , the SLG as a Non-Governmental Human Rights
Organization(NGO) that always protect the fundamental Rights of the
Citizens, most especially, Lagosians at home and abroad, are formally
request your good office to effect the arrest of all these aforementioned suspects without any further delay “.
It then calls for credible, unbiased and thorough investigation by the
security agents into the matter so as to unravel the wickedness of the alleged suspects.
