Kwara: Over 2000 Pupils To Compete In All Primary Schools Athletics Championship

Over two thousand pupils from the 16 Local Governments in Kwara State will compete for honors in the maiden edition of the State All Primary Schools Athletics Championship.

The three day competition tagged “catch them young” is aimed at nurturing talents that would bring laurels for the country in the future.

Sponsor of the championship and former vice president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria Alhaji Tunde Abdulkareem said all is set to organize a hitch free competition.

Alhaji Abdulkareem who is also the current Vice President West African Athletics Association urged sports loving Nigerians to key into the grassroots initiative to promote a better society.

Also speaking, chairman local organizing committee of the competition, Yahaya Ola Ahmed who explained that the competition initially was for the secondary schools, added that the committee this year decided to extend the competition to the primary school level to achieve the needed results.

Ahmed commended the sponsor of the championship who is the former Accountant General of Kwara State for his drive and passion to grow Athletics in the State which will in turn benefit the country as a whole in future.

Registration and accreditation of the participating schools from the local government councils commences today while the tournament will kick-off tomorrow.
