Kogi state Rehabilitation centre has been officially commissioned with a call on drug addicts to avail themselves of the services obtainable from the centre.
In a massage to the occasion in Lokoja, wife of the President, Hajia Aisha Buhari said the centre was aimed at helping drug addict recover from substance abuse, mental disorder and also restore the patient’s physical, sensory and mental capabilities that were lost due to injury or illness.
Represented by the wife of Bauchi state governor who is also the chairperson of Northern Governors wives forum, Hajia Hadiza Abubakar Mohammed, Hajia Buhari said the drug rehabilitation centre has the most trusted therapists, physicians, counselors and psychiatrists to provide patients with promising solutions and guidance to deal with issues related to drug abuse .
She said that occurrences of drug abuse and other related anti-social behavior have enormously increased in recent years and has become a matter of concern to government and all other relevant agencies in the country.
Mrs Buhari also commended the wife of the kogi state Governor, Mrs. Rashida Bello and the Northern Governors Wives forum for the initiative of a rehabilitation centre with the aim of reaching out to drug addict and the destitute in the society.
She added that the gesture would be an important means of supporting the hopes of patient and improve the quality of lives in kogi state.
Earlier, the state commissioner for Women Affairs and social Development, Mrs Bonlanle Amupitan applauded the Northern Governors wives forum for their unwavering resolve to rid Northern Nigeria of the menace of drug addition and substance abuse.
Mrs Amupitan who said the scourge of drug abuse and addition has become so widespread that society can no longer afford to blame the addict and abandoned them, also commended the forum for choosing kogi as the place to raise their voices together and “say no to drug abuse”
In his remarks, Kogi state governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello said his administration would not relent in its fight against drug menace in the state.
Bello remarked that government had set machinery in place to clamp down on drug dealers in view of the destruction they had caused communities.
