Kogi State Assembly Reverses Decision Declaring Ex-speaker’s Seat Vacant
Kogi state House of Assembly has reversed its decision on the declaration of vacancy of the seat of Lokoja one constituency thereby making the earlier declaration officially ineffective.
The House reversed the decision on Wednesday at its plenary following a motion by the Majority leader, Hassan Bello of Ajaokuta constituency.
The majority leader in the motion explained that the decision of the House was based on the constitutional provision since the Former speaker, member representing Lokoja one constituency Umar Imam had defected to Social Democratic Party, SDP.
Members in their contributions described the resolution as a positive development and appreciated the leadership of the House and APC on the development.
The speaker Prince Mattew Kolawole had earlier read a letter from Alhaji Umar Imam notifying the House on the resolution of the issues as well as another communication from the APC chairman in the state.
Ruling on the issue, Prince Kolawole directed the clerk to convey the resolution to INEC in the state and Abuja.
Meanwhile, a member of the House , Victor Omofaiye informed the members that the issue which was in court has been withdrawn by the former speaker.
