Killings: House Of Reps Summon IGP Over Accidental Discharge By Security Personnel
The House of Representatives has invited the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu over the recurrent accidental discharge killings of innocent Nigerians by security personnel.
This followed the adoption of the prayers of a motion sponsored by the deputy whip Nkeiruka Onyejeocha and two others under matters of urgent National importance.
In her lead debate the lawmaker expressed worry that if the careless use of firearms was not addressed, more lives would be wasted and Nigerians will lose faith in the ability of law enforcement agents to handle firearms.
The deputy whip who condemned the incidences of accidental discharges, wrongful use of firearms, urged security personnel to use their firearms strictly for the purpose of protecting of lives and properties.
The House also urged the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Armed Forces, and all other relevant Security Agencies authorised to carry firearms to desist from shooting in public and social gatherings to avoid accidental discharge.
The House also resolved that the Inspector General of Police investigate and bring to justice the culprits involved in the killing of Hon. Ndubusi Emenike in Imo state and other killings attributed to wrongful use of firearms by Security agents.
