The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is to commence the suspended Continuous Voter Registration across the country by the middle of the year with a new Technology.
INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu who stated this while briefing newsmen in Abuja said the measure was to give intending registrants especially those that have turned 18 the opportunity to register.
While urging eligible voters not to register twice, Professor Yakubu maitaned that the Commission would replace its Direct Data Capture Machine with a new technology called INEC Voter Enrollment Device for the exercise.
INEC Chairman noted that the Commission could not resume the exercise in 2019 due to litigations that followed the general election and off- cycle elections particularly the Kogi and Bayelsa States Gubernatorial Elections.
According to the Chairman, the Registration will continue till next year but will be suspended in Anambra state in August to enable the Commission prepare for the Governorship Election Scheduled for November this year.
He solicited the support of all stakeholders towards the success of the exercise as over Two Thousand Five Hundred Centers would be provided across the Seven Hundred and Seventy Four Local Government Areas of the country.
