The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is deploying a Voter Enrolment Device, IVED for the Continuous Voter Registration commencing next week nationwide.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu who stated this while addressing newsmen in Abuja said the new Device would replace the old Direct Data Capture Machine and provide opportunity for prospective registrants to commence online registration before physical completion at the approved centers.
Professor Yakubu further explained that the Commission took into consideration the Challenges that might be encountered by those in rural areas and persons with disability.
The INEC Chairman who emphasized that the exercise is free with no approved cyber cafe and online registration center said no scartch card is to be purchased.
On the current security situation and attacks on INEC facilities, the Chairman said adequate security arrangements had been made for the safety of registrants, INEC officials and equipment in all the Two Thousand Six Hundred and Seventy Three approved centers across the country.
Professor Yakubu however appealed to Nigerians to give the electoral body maximum cooperation towards the success of the exercise that would last for one year..
The Independent National Electoral Commission suspended the Continous Voter Registration in August 2018 to prepare for the 2019 General Election.
