Governor Samuel Ortom has solicited the assistance of the International Community, corporate organisations and individuals in taking care of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
Governor Ortom made the call when he visited the IDP Camp in Abagana, near Makurdi and two others in Daudu, Guma Local Government Area.
He noted that although the state Government has done so much in providing food and non food items to the IDPs, the influx of more people to the camps as a result of persistent attacks on communities is beginning to overwhelm the state.
Governor Ortom restated his call on the Federal Government which has control over security agencies to ensure an end to the attacks by apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators who he said are known.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr. Emmanuel Shior who confirmed the number of the IDPs to be above one hundred thousand said the agency was having difficult time in taking care of them despite the intervention of the state Government.
Mr. Shior however expressed appreciation to the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons for the assistance and appealed for more.
