GOLF: Chigborogu Wins 12th CBN Governor’s Tourney
Ugochukwu Chigborogu emerges winner of the 2018 Central Bank of Nigeria Governor’s Cup Golf Competition.
The one-day tournament, sponsored by the CBN in collaboration with the IBB Golf Club Abuja Featured 200 golfers.
The Champion Chigborogu played a gross of 91 and 65 nett to be declared winner of the competition.
Meanwhile, In the Men’s Division 1, (handicap 0-10), O. Bello came tops with a gross of 79 and 71 nett, with A. Chigbo and S.M. Bello emerging first and second runners up, respectively.
In the Men’s Division 2, handicap 11- 18 category, S. Ndifon beat the duo of S. Mahbubani and I. Saeed to win the division with a gross of 83 and 68 nett. A. Emozozo won the Men’s Division 3, handicap 19-28, playing a gross of 91 and 70 to edge B.C. Son and G. Udjor to win that category.
For the Ladies’ Division 1 (handicap 0-20) category, Grace Ihonvbere grossed 86 and carded 75 to win in that category.
In the Ladies Division 2 (handicap 21-36), N. Abubakar came tops while in the veteran Ladies division, J. Barber emerged victorious with a gross of 98 and 69 nett, ahead of J. Acholonu, with a gross of 107 and 78 nett.
For the auxiliary category, Sanusi Abdullahi won the CBN staff longest drive title, while Grace Ihonvbere had the longest drive title for ladies.
Others winners were E. Chioba (longest drive for men), M. Edozie (nearest to the pin ladies) and Edward Mark who won the prize for nearest to the pin for men.
In a remark, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele commended all the golfers who participated in the tournament and pledged the Bank’s continued support to the IBB International Golf and Country Club to ensure the sponsorship of the competition.
The Governor, who was represented by the Bank’s Director, Corporate Communications Department, Mr. Isaac Okorafor restated the CBN’s resolve to ensure the economic well-being of Nigerians.
According to him, the Apex Bank will continue to pursue its policies and programmes such as the restriction of forex from the Nigerian market for the importation of items that can be produced locally adding that the Bank will sustain the successes recorded under the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP) for the country to attain food sufficiency and security.
While disclosing that the economic outlook of the country remained bright, he urged all and sundry to work together to ensure the prosperity of the country.
The CBN Governor’s Golf Cup is held annually to promote competitiveness and inspiring partnerships and networking among golfers.
