Gender Expert calls For Women Involvement In Decision Making
A Security and Gender Expert Mrs Yemisi George has advocated more women involvement in politics as well as peace and conflict resolution in the country.
Mrs George made the call while distributing some items and cash gifts to women of Daki Biyu Community in Abuja, to enable them establish Small scale businesses for self sustenance.
According to her the initiative was part of program to mark the maiden anniversary of the NGO, Women For Peace and Unity Growth Initiative.
Mrs George also explained that when women are empowered, they would contribute to the growth of the nation’s economy.
” Over the years, we have come to a conclusion that security and poverty are interwoven, poverty contributed to all the problems we are facing today and the more we neglect it, the more we are sitting on a time bomb waiting to explode.
“We have to go back to the drawing board and begin to address these issues by putting it in the hands of the women, who are the peace builders in any community, you can not separate peace from women, they are the one who spend more time with the children, so to curb social vices, we must begin to Carry women along at decision table”
The chief of the community, Mallam Ishaku Lamishi and the secretary Mr Andy Madaki, appreciated Mrs George for the items donated and promised to always carry women along in their town hall meetings and political activities.
The women Leader of Daki Biyu Community, Mrs Aishatu Mohammed expressed gratitude and appealed to the Federal Government to increase the number of women in the nation’s decision making process.
The Items donated includes; Grinding Machine, salt, Sewing Machine, Flour among Others.
