Gbajabiamila Assures Inclusion Of Doctors’ Skipped Salary In 2020 Budget

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has assured that the N23.6bn skipped salary due to doctors would be included in the 2020 budget.
According to a Statement Signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi , the Speaker stated this while brokering a truce between the Federal Government and the National Association of Resident Doctors NARD in Abuja.
At the meeting the Speaker who was able to get a commitment from both the Federal Ministries of Finance and Health that the salary arrears would be ready for payment in the next three weeks said the House would do everything within its powers to ensure that the House Committee on Health provides effective oversight to relevant agencies.
The President of NARD, Dr. Olusegun Olaopa, who had earlier explained that the Association had three major grievances against the Federal Government which included salary arrears, skipped salaries, and irregularities in the implementation of the Resident Doctors Act said they would be patient for the three weeks needed to resolve the issue.
The meeting, which lasted close to two hours, had in attendance the Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, Leader of the House, Alhassan Ado- Doguwa, officials from the Federal Ministries of Finance and Health, the Director-General, Budget Office, Ben Akabueze, members of NARD and the Nigerian Medical Association among others
