The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Harmony FM ldofian in Kwara, has donated food items to OkeIgbala Leprosy Home, near Omuaran in Irepodun Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Presenting the items, the General Manager of Harmony FM, Alhaji Abdulmualiy Olanrewaju, represented by the Head of News and Current Affairs, Hajia Rashidat Iliyas, said the gesture was aimed at assisting the less privileged in the society.
Alhaji Olanrewaju said the decision to donate to the home was to give sense of belonging to the inmates as well as celebrate with them during the yuletide.
Receiving the items, the Officer in Charge of the home, Mr Julius Fabunmi, thanked the corporation for the gesture, saying that five of the inmates recently died of hunger.
He decried neglect by governments in the state.
Fabunmi said over seventy-five inmates of the home, including children and aged survive by soliciting alms from residents in Omuaran and surrounding towns and villages.
The inmates usually go to neighbouring towns to beg for alms for the upkeep of their children and other necessities of life,” Fabunmi said.
He, however, appealed to the State Government and well meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the home with food and cash donation to make life meaningful to them.
He said some of the inmates had been completely treated, but refused to go back home for fear of stigma.
The items, which were donated by the staff of the FRCN News and Current Affairs Department, included tubers of yam, bags of semovita, rice, groundnut oil, macaroni and other assorted materials.
