FG,UNFPA,Others Embark On Road Show To Sensitise Nigerians On FP “Green Dot” Logo
As part of efforts to promote family planning in Nigeria,the Ministry of Health, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and stakeholders in the sector have embarked on a Road Show to sensitise FCT residents on the “Green Dot” Family Planning Logo.
The FP “Green Dot” logo and communication plan was launched during the 5th Family Planning consultative stakeholders meeting held in Abuja from 11th to 13th of September, 2017, the logo is expected to serve as a quick memory aid for Nigerians on location of Public and Private outlets where Family Planning/Childbirth Spacing services can be obtained.
While flagging of the road show to increase awareness and visibility for the logo,the permanent Secretary,Ministry of Health,Mr Osarenoma Clement Uwaifo said available evidence suggested that about 83.6% females in Nigeria are knowledgeable about Modern Family Planning services,and only 15% of women of reproductive age are currently using any form of family planning.
“The low uptake of family planning has been attributed to weak demand,generational activities,poor spousal discussions and inadequate dissemination of key benefits of these services”
“The Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with its stakeholders have worked assidously to develop the National Family Planning Logo otherwise tagged as,The Green Dot” to rebrand and reposition family planning programmes in Nigeria through aggressive demand creation communication campaigns aimed at raising awareness,generating public discussion and rebranding all facilities services,”
“This will address the unmet needs of Family Planning and increase the acceptability and uptake of Modern Family Planning Methods.”
“We are here today embarking on this Road show to further increase awareness on the “Green Dot as a quick memory aide for Nigerians,especially women of reproductive age,with unmet needs on locations where they can get safe and trusted Modern family planning services thereby contributing to increasing the uptake of FP Methods and the achievements the targets 36% contraceptive prevalent rate by 2018.”he added.
The Green Dot logo will be used as follows:, Site markers at the entrance of all Public and Private locations/outlets where Family Planning/ Childbirth Spacing services are offered such as: health facilities, pharmacies and chemists.
• Venues where Family Planning/Childbirth Spacing topics are being discussed such as conferences,
seminars, workshop etc
• Placed at the top extreme right hand side on print and electronic Family Planning/Childbirth Spacing publications such as fact sheets, letter heads, newsletters etc.
• Symbol which is mentioned and used to direct the public to locations where quality Family Planning/ Childbirth Spacing services are provided.
