FCTA Restocks Jabi Lake With Over 20000 Fingerlings

The FCT Administration has restocked Jabi Lake with over twenty thousand High breed fingerlings of different species to address fish shortage in the territory.

The Secretary, FCT Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Mr Stanley Nzekwe during the ceremony in Abuja, called on stakeholders to explore natural fishery resources, especially in the inland waters for increase productivity.

Mr Nzekwe who noted that about seven thousand metric tons of frozen fish are imported annually to reduce shortfalls in fish supply, said the fish production across the country had not met the national requirements of two point five million metric tons.

The FCT Agriculture Secretary, warned that all fishing activities on Jabi Lake henceforth remain banned until after six months.

He added that illegal catching of fish from the lake within this period would attract sanction .

On their part, the chief of Jabi, Samuel Yabusan and the leader of the fishermen, Mr Adamson Adasin promised to ensure that the fishermen in the area comply by the rules.
