The Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has put smiles on the faces of an indigent family with triplets at the National Hospital, Abuja.
Conducting the Minister round the hospital, Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Aisha Umar, said the FCT Administration had commenced profiling of families that deserve government’s support through its Social Development Secretariat (SDS)
At a visit to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, Dr Ramatu Aliyu gave a cash donation of 250, 000 Naira, colthings, diapers and toiletries to the couple with triplets.
The Minister of State for FCT who pointed out that she was in the hospital in her capacity as a mother to support the people gave assurance that other families would be profiled for visitation by the Gender Department of the SDS soon.
“The FCT Administration, through its Social Development Secretariat, has a policy for supporting indigent families with multiple births, especially the less privileged. But with the economic down-turn, the policy was set aside temporarily, but it’s being revisited…So now we want to follow due process and ensure that only deserving families with multiple births and indigent families benefit from this support” Dr Aliyu assured.
In his response, one of the beneficiaries and father of the triplet, Evangelist Advocate Tommy, who said he was overwhelmed with Dr Ramatu’s kind gesture, prayed for God’s guidance upon her life.
“I am overwhelmed with this kind of gesture especially from a government official. I am still in shock to have close contact with a serving minister. Her visitation alone is enough testimony, but she crowned it all with cash and assorted gift items. May God bless her richly,” he added.
The Minister also reached out to 50 other families with different medical issues with wrappers and the sum of 10,000 Naira each.
