The FCT Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat says it has reserved over ten thousand hectares of land in Paikon-more, Gwagwalada area council and several others for grazing and crop production.
The mandate Secretary, Mr Ezekwe Stanley Ifeanyichukwu stated this in an interview with kapital fm on efforts of FCTA to increase food production in Abuja.
Mr Ifeanyichukwu said out of the ten thousand hectares, the over five thousand hectares of the grazing reserve was aimed at improving cattle production as well as to minimise farmers and herders clashes in the territory.
“On assumption of office, I visited some of our sites and I can boldly say FCTA has done tremendously well. We have over five thousand hectares covered with giant elephant grass plantation”. Mr Ifeanyichukwu added that the Fct administration had vaccinated all animals in the territory to ensure that residents consume healthy meat.
” Our veterinary department had vaccinated animals in FCT to ensure they eat right”. The FCT Agricultural and Rural Development Secretariat Boss also said the administration had been in the vanguard of training and re-training of farmers and youths under the ADP programme on value chain production to reduce wastage of farm produce.
