A Member of the House of Representatives from AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the FCT, Mr Micah Jiba has called for a Mayor to oversee the governance of the Federal Capital Territory.
Mr Jiba made the call in a statement to mark this year’s Democracy Day in Abuja. The Lawmaker who described Mayoral status for FCT as long over due said the move would further bring democratic system more closer to people of the FCT.
According to him, it would also fast track development in rural communities in all the six area councils of the Territory.
“To achieve this goal of Mayor for the FCT, I’ve already concluded consultations with some of my colleagues in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly for a Bill towards this direction” he stated.
Mr Jiba explained that a Bill for the establishment of Federal Polytechnic in the FCT would also be sponsored at the National Assembly as part of his strategies of improving and promoting higher education in the FCT.
While describing democracy as the best form of government, the Lawmaker called for unity of purpose among politicians in the FCT to realize the developmental objectives for the Territory.
Mr Jiba therefore reiterated his commitment to programmes that would ensure rapid development of the Territory.
